The OilField Journal

The OilField Journal is an annual peer-reviewed journal published by Friends of Drake Well, Inc., since 2001. The publication features original manuscripts and articles related to the mission of Drake Well Museum and Park - the uncovering, preserving, and sharing of Pennsylvania's rich petroleum history. Members of Friends of Drake Well are automatically subscribed to the OilField Journal as an annual member benefit. Non-members or those members who wish to have additional copies can purchase past volumes through the Museum Store by calling (814) 827-2797 or by visiting the Store during its regular hours of operation from April 1st through the end of December. NOTE: The Online Store is temporarily down, we apologize for the inconvenience.

There are 19 volumes of the OilField Journal. Volumes 1 & 2 are no longer in print and not available for purchase. Electronic copies of all past volumes will soon be available on this page, check back soon! An index of each volume's articles and authors can be found here.

The OilField Journal accepts manuscripts in a variety of areas that ultimately connect to the early petroleum industry in Pennsylvania including but not limited to industrial history, social history, labor history, women's history, ethnic history, Black history, cultural history, political history, environmental history, and oral history. Non-traditional topics are especially encouraged. All selected manuscripts are peer-reviewed; any revisions will be suggested prior to publication. Submissions must not be under review for another publication and by virtue of submission, authors agree to not publish the article elsewhere without the consent of the editor of the OilField Journal.
